Silverstone enforces bag size limits at every entrance. Most standard daypacks fail the check. Measure before race day — there are no storage options near the main gates.

The size rule

Approximate bag size limit

20 litres max (approx. A4 size)

Confirmed for 2025 and 2026 via official Silverstone sources. Large bags (over 20 litres) are not permitted into the circuit. Bag checks are in operation at all entrances.

Unlike Miami or Las Vegas, Silverstone does not require a clear bag. Standard, opaque bags are allowed — provided they fit within the dimensions.

20 litres is approximately A4 paper in height and width. Most standard 30L daypacks are over this limit — they're wider or taller than A4. Test your bag physically against a sheet of A4 if you're unsure. If it fails, replace it before race day.

Checked at every entrance — not just the main gate

This catches people out at Silverstone more than at most circuits. The bag check happens at every entrance gate around the circuit — not only at the Wing or the main entrance. If you arrive via a car park entrance or the pedestrian gates near Copse or Becketts, the same bag limits apply.

Enforcement is consistent across all gates. Don't assume a smaller entrance will be less strict.

What gets rejected most often

  • ✕Standard 30L daypacks — The most common rejection. Most high-street daypacks exceed the height or depth limits.
  • ✕Camera bags — Typically too large and bulk-restricted. Compact mirrorless cameras in small pouches usually fine.
  • ✕Large tote bags — Even fabric totes get checked — it's the dimensions, not the material.
  • ✕Trolleys and wheeled bags — Not permitted on circuit.
  • ✕Oversized handbags — Checked against dimensions at the gate.
  • ✕Alcohol — Not permitted inside the circuit since 2025. Canned beer, wine, spirits — none of it. Soft drinks in cans are fine.
  • ✕Glass containers — Any glass bottle or container — no exceptions.

The measurement problem

Most people estimate their bag size rather than measuring it. Their estimate is usually wrong. A bag that you think is "small" may well be 40cm tall. Measure it with a tape measure. If it fails, buy a smaller bag before you travel — not at the circuit.

No locker service at the gates

Silverstone does not operate a bag drop or locker service at the main circuit entrances. If your bag fails the check, your options are:

  • →Return to your car and leave the bag there
  • →Leave the bag with someone outside the circuit who isn't entering
  • →Not enter with the bag

This is why measuring at home is not optional. There is no convenient solution at the gate if your bag is rejected.
