Singapore Race Week — What to Do Beyond Marina Bay

The race finishes at 10pm and the city is fully awake. Singapore is a proper destination on its own — hawker centres, colonial heritage, harbour gardens, and an island beach within 30 minutes of the circuit.

Day 1

Arrive — Marina Bay, Gardens by the Bay, Hawker Centres

Arrive and get oriented around the Marina Bay waterfront. The Helix Bridge and the Esplanade area give you a clear view of the circuit layout — useful for understanding what you'll be watching on race night. Walk to Gardens by the Bay in the afternoon. The Supertree Grove light show (Garden Rhapsody) runs at 7:45pm and 8:45pm every evening and is free to watch from the ground.

For food: skip the hotel restaurants and go to a hawker centre. Lau Pa Sat on Robinson Road is 10 minutes from the Marina Bay circuit and open late. Maxwell Food Centre in Chinatown is better for a midday meal. Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice at Maxwell is the most famous stall — arrive before noon or expect a queue.

Day 2

Race Night — Marina Bay Street Circuit

The race starts at 8pm local time. Spend the afternoon at Clarke Quay or the Colonial District — the area around Fort Canning Park, the Asian Civilisations Museum, and Raffles Hotel is quieter than the Padang grandstand approach and gives you a good walk to the circuit entrance. Have dinner before the race; food options inside the circuit are limited.

The Marina Bay circuit is compact and most grandstand positions have clear sightlines. The Pit Grandstand and Turn 3 area give you the longest visible run of circuit. After the race, Clarke Quay and Boat Quay are the closest nightlife areas — both are within walking distance of the circuit and stay busy until 3am on race weekend.

Race logistics

MRT to City Hall or Raffles Place stations. Roads close around the circuit from mid-afternoon. See the Singapore GP getting there guide for entry zones and what to expect on exit.

Day 3

Sentosa Island, Chinatown, and Little India

Take the cable car or MRT to Sentosa Island. Palawan Beach and Siloso Beach are both on the island — the water is warm year-round. Universal Studios Singapore is also here if you have children or just want a theme park. Sentosa is 30 minutes from the city centre and easy to combine with a return through HarbourFront.

Chinatown and Little India are both worth a few hours. The Sri Veeramakaliamman Temple in Little India and the Sri Mariamman Temple in Chinatown are both free to enter and give you a sense of Singapore's religious diversity. Haji Lane in Kampong Glam has the best independent shops in the city.
