Abu Dhabi F1 Grand Prix Bag Policy 2026No large bags. No outside alcohol. No published size limit.

Abu Dhabi's bag policy is straightforward but the alcohol rules catch people off guard. Nothing comes in from outside, and drinks don't leave the designated zones.

The bag rules

Published size limit: None — official policy says “no large backpacks”

Clear bag required: No clear bag requirement

Practical rule: Bag must fit under your seat — small daypack is the safe choice

Outside alcohol: Strictly prohibited — including sealed cans

Professional cameras: Professional filming/photography equipment prohibited

The 30×30cm figure cited by many guides refers to the Etihad Park concert venue, not the circuit itself. The official Yas Marina policy doesn't publish a specific size — it just prohibits “large backpacks” and items that don't fit under a seat. A small daypack is the safe choice.

Check your bag before you leave the hotel

On-site storage at Yas Marina is very limited and fills instantly. Some gates have small lockers but these cannot be relied upon. If your bag is rejected, you're walking back to your hotel or vehicle.

The alcohol rules — the part that catches people

Zero outside alcohol is permitted — not a sealed can, not a miniature from the hotel minibar, not anything. Security checks bags specifically for this. The rule applies regardless of whether the container is opened or sealed.

Alcohol is available inside the venue at Fan Zones and grandstands. The typical price is $15+ per drink. The second part of the rule: drinks purchased inside the designated wet zones cannot be taken outside those zones. You cannot carry a drink from one grandstand area to another.

Both parts apply

Nothing comes in from outside. Drinks purchased inside stay within the wet zone. This is stricter than most European circuits — plan accordingly.

Professional cameras and photography

The official policy prohibits “professional filming, photography, or broadcasting equipment”. No specific lens length is published — security uses discretion. In practice, DSLR cameras with large telephoto lenses are the issue; compact cameras, mirrorless cameras with standard lenses, and phones are consistently fine.

If security flags your camera, they may require you to check it into storage. Storage is very limited and not fully secure — there have been reports of items being difficult to retrieve.

Leave the big lens at the hotel

DSLR with a large telephoto lens is the risk. Compact cameras and mirrorless with a standard zoom are fine. If in doubt, check the official Abu Dhabi GP conditions of entry before you pack.

What's allowed in

  • Small bags and daypacks that fit under a seat
  • Phones, tablets, and personal non-professional cameras
  • Binoculars
  • Ear protection
  • Medications and medical equipment
  • Baby food and formula
  • Compact jackets and ponchos within bag dimensions
  • Food and drink purchased inside the circuit

What's not allowed

  • Large bags and backpacks — anything clearly oversized is refused
  • Outside alcohol of any kind — including sealed cans and bottles
  • Professional filming and photography equipment
  • Drones or remote-controlled aircraft
  • Outside food and drink (excepting baby food and medical items)
  • Glass containers
  • Smoke bombs, flares, or pyrotechnics
  • Laser pointers

What gets rejected most often

  • Oversized bags — anything clearly larger than a small daypack
  • Outside alcohol — the most common rejection reason
  • Professional filming and photography equipment
  • Drones of any size
  • Outside food and drink (non-medical)

If your bag is rejected

On-site storage is very limited and not reliable. Options if your bag is rejected:

  • Some gates have small lockers — these fill instantly and cannot be counted on
  • Return to your hotel if staying on Yas Island
  • Return to your vehicle if you drove
  • Discard prohibited items for small things like a single bottle

The right plan is to check your bag at home — measure dimensions and leave outside alcohol and large lenses at the hotel before you travel to the circuit.

What to fit in a small daypack

  • Sunscreen SPF 30+Apply before entry and carry for reapplication. December sun is intense.
  • Light jacket or hoodieTemperature drops after sunset. Folds into a compact roll or stuff-sack.
  • Power bankEssential at Abu Dhabi — cell service degrades with 100k people on-site.
  • Ear protectionFoam earplugs weigh nothing. Ear defenders fold flat.
  • Hat and sunglassesHat can be worn; glasses in a soft case add minimal bulk.
