Getting to the Abu Dhabi Grand PrixArrival is straightforward. The post-race exit needs a plan.

Yas Island is well connected — taxi from Abu Dhabi city is 30 minutes, from Dubai about 90. The post-race road situation is the only thing that needs a plan.

1

From Abu Dhabi city30 min

Taxi or Uber is the most convenient option — approximately 30 minutes from the city centre and 70–100 AED each way. Careem also operates in Abu Dhabi.

Taxi / Uber / Careem

~30 min, 70–100 AED. Straightforward. Works well for arrival — don't rely on it for the immediate post-race exit.

Bus 190

From Abu Dhabi Main Bus Station to Yas Island. Takes approximately 45 minutes. Cheaper than a taxi and reliable for arrival. Check the current timetable before race weekend.

Yas Express (free)

Free shuttle buses run between Yas Mall, the main hotels, and circuit gates during race weekend. Not a standalone option from the city, but useful for getting between on-island locations.

2

From Dubai60–90 min

The E11 (Sheikh Zayed Road) connects Dubai directly to Yas Island. Traffic is generally manageable on race weekend arrivals — the post-race congestion is on-island, not on the highway.

Taxi from Dubai

60–90 min, approximately 250–300 AED one-way. Prices vary — confirm before getting in. Return fares post-race should be pre-agreed or booked via app.

Private shuttle (popular choice)

Many fans book private shuttles specifically for the Dubai–Yas Island trip. Multiple operators run services around race weekend. Book in advance — they sell out.

Self-drive

The route is straightforward via E11. Parking at Yas Island is available and pre-bookable. Factor in the post-race exit situation — driving out of the island immediately after the race follows the same 2-hour gridlock pattern as taxis.

3

Getting around Yas Island

The free Yas Express buses run between Yas Mall, the main hotels, and circuit gates throughout race weekend. Download the Abu Dhabi GP app and check the Yas Express timetable — routes and timings are confirmed each day. No booking required, just show up.

Ferrari World, Warner Bros. World, SeaWorld, and Yas Mall are all within a five-minute shuttle of the circuit. Most fans use Yas Mall and Yas Bay Waterfront as base areas between sessions.

4

Water taxis and ferries

Yellow Boats and water taxis operate in Yas Marina on race day. Advance booking is required — they do not operate as walk-up services during race weekend. Worth it for the experience of approaching the island from the water.

Advance booking required

Yellow Boats and Corniche ferries can be pre-booked for race weekend. Walk-up capacity is extremely limited — if this is something you want to do, book well before the weekend.

Hotels within walking distance

Staying on Yas Island removes the transport problem entirely for arrivals. Post-race is still a question of timing — walking back to the hotel is fine but roads are still gridlocked for anyone driving or taking a taxi.

W Abu Dhabi — Yas Island

On the circuit

The W literally spans the track — rooms overlook it. The most convenient location on the circuit, priced accordingly.

Yas Plaza Hotels (Crowne Plaza, Staybridge, Radisson Blu, Rotana)

5–10 minutes to East/West gates

Four hotels clustered together in Yas Plaza. Walking distance to both main circuit gates. Good value relative to the W for on-island access.

Hilton Yas Island

~15 minutes to Fan Zone / South Grandstand

Walkable but at the further end of the island. Good for fans in the South Grandstand section.

Post-race exit — the part that matters

Yas Island has limited road connections to the mainland. After 170,000 fans all try to leave in the same 30-minute window, those roads gridlock. The typical wait for a taxi immediately after the flag is 2+ hours. This is not an edge case — it happens every year.

Stay for the after-race concert (recommended)

Concert at Etihad Park is included with every race ticket. Runs 60–90 minutes post-race. By the time it ends, the worst of the road gridlock has cleared. This is the correct exit strategy.

Dinner at Yas Bay Waterfront

Yas Bay has restaurants and a waterfront area 5–10 minutes from the circuit. Going there immediately after the race means you arrive before the dinner rush and leave after traffic has cleared.

Taxi or Uber immediately at the flag

Roads out of Yas Island gridlock for 2+ hours. You will sit in traffic. This is the option that makes the post-race experience miserable — and it is entirely avoidable.

Wait 90 minutes inside

Staying anywhere on-island for 90 minutes post-race — the Fan Zone, a bar, or Yas Mall — achieves the same traffic-clearing effect as the concert. The concert just gives you something to do while you wait.

The plan that consistently works

Stay for the after-race concert at Etihad Park. It's included with your ticket, it runs 60–90 minutes, and by the time it ends, roads have cleared enough to get a taxi without a 2-hour wait. You get entertainment and you avoid traffic. There is no downside to this plan.
