What to Pack for the Qatar F1 Grand PrixHeat management for afternoon arrivals, layers for evening sessions.

The race starts at 18:00 and qualifying at 21:00, which makes people underestimate the afternoon. You will arrive at the circuit in direct sun at 28-30°C, walk to your grandstand, and sit in an exposed seat for several hours before the floodlights dominate. Sun protection is not optional at Lusail. Pack it even though you are going to a night race.

The bag limit

Bags must not exceed 30cm × 20cm × 20cm in any dimension. Unlike US circuits, there is no clear bag requirement at Lusail — a normal small backpack in any colour is permitted provided it fits the size limit. A medium-sized daypack typically fails this. Measure before you pack.

Sun protection — the non-negotiable

November afternoons in Doha reach 28-30°C with humidity that makes it feel hotter in direct sun. The circuit grandstands vary in shade provision — many areas are exposed during the afternoon arrival window. Apply SPF before you leave your hotel and pack top-up protection.

SPF 50 sunscreen (travel size)

Essential — afternoon arrival is hot; reapply after the metro journey

Cap or wide-brim hat

Direct sun protection while waiting for the floodlit sessions to start

Cooling towel or small hand fan

Evaporative cooling works well in the pre-race afternoon period

Lip balm with SPF

Desert air and sun combine to cause cracking; easy to forget and noticeable

Evening layers

The race start at 18:00 sees temperatures of 24-26°C — comfortable in light clothing. By qualifying time (21:00) on Saturday, temperatures drop to 18-20°C. A light jacket or cardigan is genuinely useful for the later sessions. This is not Las Vegas cold, but sitting still in an open grandstand in a light shirt at 18°C is cool enough to notice.

Light jacket or cardigan

For qualifying (21:00 Saturday) and late evening sessions — not thick, just a layer

Breathable long-sleeved layer

Doubles as modest attire for the metro and sun protection during the afternoon
