Hungarian F1 Grand Prix Bag Policy20 litres, food allowed — more generous than most. The things that still get rejected.

Hungary allows up to 20 litres and lets you bring food — more generous than most circuits. The things that get rejected are glass, hard coolers, and large camera lenses.

The bag limit

20 litre maximum

A standard 20L daypack is within the limit. Most school bags and festival backpacks are 30–35L and will be turned away. If your bag doesn't have a litre rating, measure it: roughly 40cm × 25cm × 20cm is 20 litres.

Security checks at the Hungaroring are real — enforcement varies by day and gate but race day (Sunday) is stricter. Don't rely on the more relaxed Friday atmosphere.

What you can bring in (food and drink)

This is where Hungary is different from most circuits on the calendar:

Food — up to 3 sandwiches or equivalent

Sandwiches, wraps, fruit, snack bars. Practical, non-messy food within the 3-item rule. This is enforced at the gate, not measured precisely — common sense applies.

Non-alcoholic drinks in soft containers

Juice cartons, plastic bottles, pouches, flexible water bottles. Not glass. Not cans (at some gates). Soft and flexible is the rule to follow.

Empty reusable water bottles

Permitted, and recommended — the DRINKW free water refill stations are your best hydration option in the July heat.

What gets confiscated

  • Glass bottles and glass containersIncluding wine bottles, glass thermoses, and glass food containers.
  • Hard-shell coolers and ice chestsSoft cool bags within the 20L limit are generally permitted.
  • Camera lenses over 300mmProfessional-looking telephoto lenses are flagged at security.
  • Umbrellas (in grandstands)Umbrellas are permitted in the circuit area and GA sections but are not allowed inside grandstands. Pack a poncho as your rain backup — it fits in your bag and works everywhere.
  • Selfie sticks
  • Tripods and monopods
  • AlcoholOutside alcohol is not permitted regardless of container type.

No storage at the gate

If your bag or item fails the check, you will be told to return it to your hotel or car. There are no on-site bag storage lockers at the Hungaroring. This is not a backup option — it means walking back.

Free water refill stations

The circuit operates DRINKW branded free cold water refill stations throughout the venue. In July heat, these are not optional background information — they are the main reason to bring an empty reusable bottle rather than carrying heavy water in.

Queues at the water stations build during peaks (mid-morning and around the race start). Fill up early and often rather than waiting until you're thirsty.
