Albert Park Circuit track map: a lap, section by section
T1–T2 · The first corner
The opening-lap scramble. Jones sits on the outfield of Turn 1 and Brabham on the infield of the same corner.
T3 · The first big stop
The AGPC calls Turn 3 one of the circuit's most reliable braking and overtaking zones; the Hill grandstand is on its apex.
T7–T13 · Lakeside Drive
The back of the lap runs along the lake shore. There is no run-off by the water, so concrete barriers line the curve. The 2022 changes removed the old Turns 9 and 10, creating a longer high-speed section here.
T11 · End of the longest straight
A late-braking hotspot, with the Webber grandstand on the inside and Vettel opposite.
T14 · Back to the pits
The last corner, across from the pit entry — Prost looks down on its apex.
A circuit in a park
Albert Park is not a purpose-built circuit. The lap uses roads around Albert Park Lake that are open to traffic most of the year, which is why there is no spectator car parking and why the weekend runs on trams and footpaths.
The trams on St Kilda Road (routes 1, 3/3a, 5, 6, 8, 16, 64, 67 and 72) pass stops near the circuit, and the walk from Flinders Street is a flat 3.5 km. The getting-there guide covers the post-race exit.
The 2022 layout
Before the 2022 race the pit lane and several corners were widened, Turn 13 was altered and the old Turns 9 and 10 were removed. The result is a longer high-speed run through the back of the lap and wider braking zones for overtaking.
Best places to watch
Fourteen grandstands ring the lap. Which corners each one sees, which have undercover rows and which gate they sit by are on the grandstands page.
- Fangio (main straight) — The start and the pit stops, directly across from Pit Lane.
- Jones and Brabham (Turn 1) — The opening-lap scramble from either side of the first corner.
- Hill (Turn 3) — One of the most reliable overtaking zones on the lap.
- Webber and Vettel (Turn 11) — Late braking at the end of the longest straight.
- Prost (Turn 14) — The final corner and who is committing to a pit stop.
