Getting to Albert Park
Albert Park is a circuit in a public park about 3.5 km south of the Melbourne CBD, and there is no spectator car parking — the Australian Grand Prix Corporation tells fans to use public transport. Almost everyone arrives by tram along St Kilda Road or on foot.
The walk from Flinders Street is flat and takes most people 35–40 minutes; on race day tens of thousands of fans make it with you. Check your tram stop on the PTV Journey Planner the night before and screenshot it — phone signal can be patchy around the circuit.
Ways in
- Tram: Routes 1, 3/3a, 5, 6, 8, 16, 64, 67 and 72 run along St Kilda Road past stops near the circuit. A loaded Myki card is the reliable way to pay.
- Rideshare: Drivers cannot stop at the main gates. Ask to be dropped on Queens Road or Canterbury Road and walk the last 10 minutes.
- Driving: Not recommended. Nearby streets are permit-only during race weekend, and the roads around the park gridlock after the race.
After the race, stay for the podium (15–20 minutes), then walk back up St Kilda Road — it beats waiting for a tram in the first 20 minutes. For a rideshare, walk at least 1.5 km north before opening the app.
