Red Bull Ring Bag Policy 2026A3 limit. Strictly enforced. Measure before race day.

Red Bull Ring enforces an A3 size limit strictly for grandstand entry. That's smaller than most standard daypacks. Measure your bag before race day — the motorcycle locker area is a long walk if you're turned away at the gate.

The A3 size limit

Maximum bag size: A3 — 29.7 × 42cm

Clear bag required: No — a normal bag within A3 dimensions is accepted

Enforcement: Strictly enforced at grandstand entrances

A3 is the size of a large piece of paper — 29.7cm × 42cm. A standard 25-30L daypack is typically wider and taller than this. Most festival backpacks, school bags, and regular travel daypacks are over the limit.

Measure before you leave accommodation

Hold a piece of A3 paper next to your packed bag. If your bag is wider or taller than the paper, it will be rejected at the gate. Security at Red Bull Ring applies this rule consistently — there are no exceptions for “close enough.”

The official policy is published at redbullring.com/en/events-tickets/formula-1/. Check the official source before race day as policies can change between seasons.

What's allowed

  • Small bags within A3 dimensions (29.7 × 42cm)
  • Food and non-alcoholic drinks in plastic packaging
  • Phones, tablets, and personal cameras
  • Binoculars
  • Ear protection
  • Medications and medical equipment
  • Compact umbrellas (check current policy — subject to change)
  • Flags on poles under permitted length

What's not allowed

  • Bags larger than A3 (29.7 × 42cm) — strictly enforced at grandstand entrances
  • Glass bottles or metal cans
  • Alcoholic drinks
  • Large camera lenses (professional filming equipment)
  • Tripods
  • Drones or remote-controlled aircraft
  • Selfie sticks
  • Large umbrellas
  • Smoke bombs, flares, or pyrotechnics
  • Laser pointers

What gets rejected most often

Gate checks at Red Bull Ring are thorough. The most commonly rejected items:

  • Standard daypacks and rucksacks that exceed 29.7 × 42cm
  • Festival-style backpacks
  • Camera bags
  • Camera lenses over the permitted focal length
  • Smoke canisters (increasingly common F1 accessory — not allowed here)

If your bag is rejected

There is a luggage deposit at the motorcycle parking area — approximately €15/day. However, it is a significant walk from most grandstands and grandstand entrances, and it fills up on busy days.

Knittelfeld station lockers fill almost immediately on race day — do not rely on them as a backup if your bag is rejected at the gate. The right plan is to measure your bag before you leave accommodation.

Packing for the A3 limit

The A3 limit defines what you can bring — pack the bag that fits the limit, then fill it with what matters most. Priority items:

  • Rain jacketPack it first. Non-negotiable for Styrian weather.
  • Phone + power bankBattery matters more than any other item across a full day.
  • Sunscreen + sunglassesAltitude UV is higher than expected — apply before leaving accommodation.
  • Ear protectionFoam earplugs weigh almost nothing. Ear defenders fold flat.
  • Food and waterReduce cashless card use and queue time for basic sustenance.
