Singapore Grand Prix

SINGAPORE 2026 CITY GUIDE

A night race means your daylight hours are free. These are the experiences that fit around Marina Bay running.

Daytime

The Free Daytime Window

This is the part first-timers get wrong. Because the Singapore Grand Prix runs after dark, gates do not open until the late afternoon and the first cars are not on track until early evening. That leaves a full working day free on Friday, Saturday and Sunday — genuinely free, not squeezed. The catch is the heat: it sits around 30°C with humidity above 80% and barely drops before sunset, so anything strenuous belongs in the morning, and the middle of the day belongs indoors or on the water.

Gardens by the Bay — Cloud Forest & Flower Dome

Valid 1 dayEveryone, especially in the heat

Two climate-controlled domes a ten-minute walk from the Bayfront gates. This is the single best use of a hot race-day afternoon: it is indoors, it is cold, and you can be back at your hotel to change before the gates open. The Supertree Grove outside is free to walk if you only want the photograph.

Views

Marina Bay Sands SkyPark Observation Deck

Valid 1 dayPhotographers, first-timers

The 56th-floor deck looks straight down onto the circuit. Go on Thursday or in the morning before running starts — the view of an empty, lit Marina Bay track is the shot people come home with. Note the infinity pool is a separate floor and hotel guests only; this ticket does not include it.

Lion City Highlights Half-Day Bike Tour

4 hoursActive travellers

Four hours covering Marina Bay, the civic district, Kampong Glam and the east coast path — considerably more ground than a walking tour manages in the same time. Book the morning departure: riding this route at midday in October is genuinely unpleasant.

Also worth knowing

Botanic Gardens (UNESCO)

1.5–2 hrs

Free to enter, open from 5am, and the one green space big enough to lose the crowds in. The National Orchid Garden inside is ticketed. Best before 9am, when it is still merely warm.

National Museum of Singapore

2 hrs

Air-conditioned, walkable from Bras Basah, and a genuinely good primer on how the city became what it is. A reliable fallback when an afternoon thunderstorm arrives, which in October it often does.

Food

Hawker Food & Food Tours

Singapore's hawker centres are the reason a lot of people book this race twice. A Michelin Bib Gourmand plate of chicken rice costs less than a circuit beer, and the centres are open long past the chequered flag. The guided tours below exist mainly to solve the ordering problem — knowing which stall in a hall of sixty is the one with the queue for a reason.

Food

Singapore Stories Food Tour with 12 Tastings

4 hoursFoodies

Twelve tastings across Chinatown, Little India and Kampong Glam, several from Michelin-rated kitchens, in a group capped at eight. The most thorough of the food options and the best single introduction if you only do one.

Food

Local Hawker Food Tour — Chinatown

3 hrsShorter appetites

Skip-the-queue tastings at Bib Gourmand stalls in Chinatown: chicken rice, char kway teow, laksa. Shorter and more focused than the twelve-tasting tour — this one stays in Chinatown rather than crossing the city.

Culture

Chinatown, Little India & Arab Street Walking Tour

4 hoursCulture over calories

Four hours across three heritage districts — Sri Mariamman Temple, the Tekka Market backstreets, the Sultan Mosque. More history than food, despite the overlap in ground covered with the food tours.

Also worth knowing

Dim Sum Brunch

1.5 hrs

A late breakfast before an evening session is the correct race-day rhythm here. Chinatown and Tanjong Pagar both have long-running dim sum houses that open early and fill by 11am.

Tiong Bahru Art Deco Walk

2 hrs

Pre-war walk-up estate, independent bakeries and one of the city's best wet markets. Twenty minutes from Marina Bay and almost entirely free of race-week crowds.

Near Circuit

Inside and Around the Track Ring

The Marina Bay circuit is not out of town — it is the town. The track runs past the Padang, over the Anderson Bridge and along Esplanade Drive, which means large parts of the city centre sit inside or immediately beside the ring. Several MRT exits close or reroute on running days, so give yourself longer than the map suggests and check which gate your ticket actually uses before you set off.

Singapore River & Boat Quay Walk

1 hr

Free, flat, and directly adjacent to the northern part of the circuit. Best done in the late afternoon on your way to the gates — the light on the shophouses is the reason to time it that way.

Marina Bay Waterfront Walk

1 hr

The loop around the bay gives you the skyline, the Merlion and a view across to the grandstands. On non-running evenings it is the cheapest good night in the city.

Little India & Kampong Glam

2–3 hrs

Two distinct districts a few MRT stops north of the circuit — Tekka Market and the Sultan Mosque quarter. Both stay open late and neither is affected by circuit road closures.

Between Sessions

Sentosa & The Longer Breaks

2026 is a Sprint weekend in Singapore, which changes the shape of the weekend: Friday and Saturday both carry competitive running, so neither is the easy free day it is at a conventional race. Thursday, with no track action at all, is where a longer excursion actually belongs.

Island

Sentosa Island Cable Car and Beach Day

Half dayFamilies, Thursday

Cable car from HarbourFront with return, plus Palawan and Siloso beach access. Half an hour from the circuit and the only proper beach option without leaving the island nation.

Also worth knowing

Sentosa Island Day

Full day

Beyond the cable car, the island holds Universal Studios, the aquarium and a long stretch of managed beach. A full day if you have Thursday spare; a rushed half-day if you try it on Friday.

After

After the Chequered Flag

The race starts at 8pm local and finishes close to 10pm, and getting clear of Marina Bay afterwards takes a while whichever gate you use. Plan for late food rather than a fixed booking — and if you want something organised on the Sunday, an evening tour that includes hotel pickup removes the hardest part of the night.

Evening

Singapore Evening Tour — River Cruise, Garden Rhapsody & Spectra

EveningNon-race evenings

Guided evening coach tour with hotel pickup: a 35-minute river cruise, a Merlion photo stop, the Garden Rhapsody light show and Spectra at Marina Bay Sands. Better suited to a non-race evening than to Sunday itself.

Food

Lau Pa Sat Night Street Food with Marina Bay Walk

EveningPost-session hunger

Six-plus hawker classics at Lau Pa Sat followed by a Marina Bay waterfront walk with the Spectra show. Lau Pa Sat sits close enough to the circuit that this works on a night you are already in the area.

Free cancellation up to 24h before

Also worth knowing

Satay Street at Lau Pa Sat

1 hr

Boon Tat Street closes to traffic each evening and the satay grills come out. No booking, no ticket, open late — the default answer to the post-race hunger problem, for good reason.

Extend Your Trip

Nearby City Extensions

Worth considering if you have extra time around Singapore.

Singapore

Your base city

Compact enough that nothing is more than 40 minutes away by MRT. The race weekend barely limits where you can go during the day.

EveryoneDuring race weekend

Sentosa

30 min from the circuit

Beaches, cable car, Universal Studios. Close enough to count as a day out rather than a trip.

Families, groupsThursdayEasy add-on

Johor Bahru, Malaysia

1–2 hrs via Woodlands

A genuine border crossing with a very different food scene. Queue times at the causeway are unpredictable on weekends — allow more than you think.

Repeat visitorsBefore the race

Bintan or Batam, Indonesia

1 hr by ferry

Resort islands reachable from Tanah Merah. Only worth it as a two-night add-on either side of the weekend, not a day trip.
